Seongdang Lake
Located on the other side of Duryu Park is a beautiful lake that was recently reconstructed. Between the two locations, it’s only about a 15-minute walk over Duryu Mountain. With the cherry blossoms, it looks like everyone is out enjoying the Spring sun. My favorite part about Seongdang Lake is the pavilion, but it wasn’t open when I went. While taking a walk I got to know a little history about how the lake came to be.
The name ‘Seongdang’ refers to the surrounding area that used to be called ‘Seongdaeng’. From 1910 when the area name changed to ‘Seongdang dong’, the lake took after its name. A house used to be on the terrain where the lake now sits that was home to a judge who belonged to the Joseon Jungyeop Chae clan. After the ground was seen as a harmony between humans and nature by a feng shui expert, it was said that future kings would be born here. Thus, the lake was built to prevent anyone from building more homes on the sacred foundation.
This lake is situated in a great location as there are nearby bike rental shops, Duryu Park, walking trails, Daegu Arts Center, and other attractions in the vicinity to see.
